Graduated from the University of Western Ontario with a Bachelor of Arts degree (1976).

Business Leadership

  • 32 years of leadership in the insurance industry including President, Stevenson & Hunt (1999-2008) which quadrupled its employee group to 160 during his tenure.
  • Founder of the Directors Club of London which has developed into one of London’s premier business-networking groups (1981-present).
  • President of the London Chamber of Commerce’s Board of Directors (1992-93).
  • President of the London Club’s Executive Board (2007-08).
  • Chair of the London Convention Centre (2000-02).
  • Member of the University of Western Ontario’s Board of Governors (2004) and Senate (2006).


Political Leadership

  • Member of Parliament for London West (2008-2015).
  • Federal Minister of Science and Technology (2014-15).
  • Chair of the Conservative Southwest Ontario Caucus (2013-14).


Community Leadership

  • Leadership roles in more than 40 community and not-for-profit organizations.
  • Co-Organizer of London’s “Rockin’ New Year’s Eve” in Victoria Park (2001-15).
  • Co-Founder of “Business Cares” Food Drive (2001-present).
  • Current member and past Sergeant-At-Arms of Rotary Club London.
  • Patron and Past Board Chair (2004) St. John Ambulance.
  • Sunshine Foundation of Canada National Board of Directors (2012-17) and President (2017)
  • Member of the Campaign Cabinet, United Way of London & Middlesex (1990, 2005).
  • Fundraiser for Crimestoppers (1996, 2011).
  • Member of the London Garrison Community Council (2001-present).
  • Chair YMCA-YWCA of London Charity Golf Tournament “Y Fore Kids” (2002-11).
  • Current member and President, Old South Community Organization (1984).
  • Master of Ceremonies, “Gathering On The Green”, Old South London (1986-2007).
  • Member Portuguese Club of London (1990-present).
  • Board member, Theatre London Foundation (2005-08).

  • Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Medal.
  • Sovereign’s Medal for volunteerism.
  • “Koppers Award” from the London Police.
  • Commander of the Order of St. John.
  • “Paul Harris Fellow” and “Jack Burghart Community Above Self” awards from Rotary.
  • Honorary Patron, “Music Reigns”.
  • “Sunshine Dreams” award.
  • YMCA of Western Ontario award for volunteerism.
